      Wilderness & Remote First Aid

      Designed for scouts and scout leaders, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who works or spends time in remote environments, this American Red Cross course teaches advanced skills to be used in emergencies when help from professional first responders may be far away. Based on the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines, this course aligns with OSHA’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs. Course Schedule: Saturday, December 7: 9:00-10:00am Course Introductions at The Mountain Air 10:00am-4:30pm Classroom Session at Youu-Ness Body Work (walking distance from TMA) 4:30-5:00pm Adult CPR/AED In-Person Skills Session for students who need certification Sunday, December 8: 9:00-11:00am Field Session at Emerson Park 11:00am-5:00pm Classroom Session at Youu-Ness Body Work 5:00-6:00pm (Optional) Private Shopping Session at The Mountain Air Prerequisites: Must be at least 14 years old and hold current adult CPR/AED certification.  If you need to get certified before the class, please contact the instructor Sarah Hawkins at coursecareslo@gmail.com to register for a blended class where you can complete the majority of the course work at home online and then stay an extra minutes on Saturday to complete the in-person component.  There is an additional fee of $25 for this option. Successful students will earn a Wilderness and Remote First Aid certification from the American Red Cross that is valid for 2 years. Topics include: ·         Primary and Secondary Assessments ·         Head/Brain, Neck and Spinal Injuries ·         Heat-Related Emergencies ·         Hypothermia ·         Altitude-Related Illnesses ·         Allergies and Anaphylaxis ·         Burns ·         Bone and Joint Injuries ·         Wounds and Wound Infection
